Shelf indicators

One of the glaring issues with apple’s books app is when you have all books listed, none indicate which have been allotted to a specific folder e.g. recipes, instruction manuals, photography, etc.

I’m disappointed to see BookShelves delivers the same outcome when in LIBRARY > ALL BOOKS. Why does this matter? Well if one imports a hundred ebooks and creates shelves to categorise each book, how does one know which ones have been allocated a home and which ones have yet to be?

Thanks for the feedback, and you're right that it matters. Knowing what you've already filed and what you haven't is the whole point after importing a hundred books at once.

There's a built-in shelf for exactly that: Unshelved, in the sidebar (tray icon, below Favorites). It lists every book that isn't on a shelf you created, so it empties out as you file things. Worth noting that it ignores the built-in shelves, so a book sitting in "Reading" or "Favorites" still counts as unshelved. That's usually what you want.

An indicator in All Books showing which shelf a book already belongs to is something we'll have a look at for a future update.

Thank you for the feedback. That's a fair point about organizing a large library.

For finding books that haven't been categorized yet: BookShelves has a built-in "Unshelved" shelf in the sidebar that automatically shows all books not assigned to any shelf. You can work through that list until it's empty.

Regarding showing shelf membership in the All Books view, could you describe what you'd picture? For example, a small label or badge on each book cover, a colored dot, the shelf name in the list view, or something else? That would help me think through the best approach.
