Each time I open the app it seems to be reindexing some books and downloading covers. But what is a big bug is that it keeps offloading the book I am currently reading to iCloud and each time I enter the app it has to redownload it. Obviously this is inconvenient and impossible if I’m travelling and have no connection. Please look into this. This app has huge potential. Thanks so much.

Could you let me know which device and OS version you're on (e.g. iPhone 16 / iOS 18.4, or MacBook / macOS 15.4), and which version of BookShelves you're running? You can find the app version in Settings > About. That'll help me narrow things down.

Hi Jamie, thanks for the follow-up details. We've shipped several iCloud fixes since 1.0.18 — most importantly, the app now copies the book to a local cache before opening it, so iOS can no longer offload the file you're currently reading. Cover re-downloading and file status detection were also improved. These fixes are available in the current release (1.0.24). Please update and let us know if you still see the issue!
Thanks so much for your reply. Unfortunately it now seems that I can’t access most of my books. When I do a sync only a few of them are accessible. I keep getting an error message saying:
Book Not Available
The file for this book is not available on this device. It may need to be downloaded from iCloud or re-imported.
I had to rebuild my library from scratch and so far it is working now. However it still offloads books that are tagged as reading instead of keeping a local copy at all times.
